The expanding global fleet of the KC-46A not only enhances interoperability but also ensures readiness and mission effectiveness for the U.S. Air Force and its allies.

Everett, Washington — In a significant move for U.S. military aviation, Boeing has been awarded a colossal $2.3 billion contract by the U.S. Air Force for 15 additional KC-46A Pegasus tankers. This marks a pivotal expansion in the ninth production lot of these multi-mission aerial refuelers, bringing the total number contracted to the Air Force to 128, out of which 68 have been delivered.

The KC-46A Pegasus, a cornerstone of modern military aviation, is more than just a refueling aircraft. It represents a transformation in the tanker’s role for the 21st century, combining refueling capabilities with cargo and passenger transportation, aeromedical evacuation support, and advanced data connectivity. This multi-mission aircraft enhances the joint force and allies' capabilities, standing as a testament to Boeing's commitment to innovation and collaboration with the U.S. military.

Boeing's partnership with the U.S. Air Force has not been without its challenges, particularly concerning the KC-46A's Remote Vision System. However, recent developments indicate Boeing's commitment to resolving these issues, signaling a positive trajectory in this longstanding relationship. The company's focus on continuous improvement and adaptation to the evolving needs of modern warfare is evident in its efforts to enhance the aircraft’s capabilities.

The economic impact of this contract is noteworthy. The KC-46A Pegasus is built in Everett, Washington, by a robust supplier network, encompassing about 37,000 American workers across more than 650 businesses in over 40 U.S. states. This not only underscores Boeing's role in bolstering the U.S. economy but also highlights the intricate web of national collaboration and expertise fueling the defense sector.

As Boeing gears up for the completion of this latest batch by August 2026, the KC-46A's global operational readiness and its participation in various military exercises underscore its vital role in U.S. and allied forces. The expanding global fleet of the KC-46A not only enhances interoperability but also ensures readiness and mission effectiveness for the U.S. Air Force and its allies.

This agreement goes beyond a mere business transaction. It signifies a strategic improvement in military capabilities and a substantial boost to the United States' defense industry. Boeing's ongoing innovation and delivery promise to revolutionize the skies for decades to come, with the KC-46A Pegasus leading the way.
