BTQ and Hon Hai Research Institute Forge Alliance to Pioneer Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards

Deepening two-year collaboration, work aims to support academic community in promoting standardization of PQC

Vancouver, Taipei, November 29, 2023 — In a landmark move that could redefine the future of digital security, BTQ Technologies Corp., a luminary in quantum technology, has joined forces with the Hon Hai Research Institute, the brain trust of Foxconn. This collaboration, formalized through a Research and Collaboration Agreement, marks a significant step forward in the race to establish post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards.


Post-quantum cryptography, a term that’s been buzzing in tech corridors, refers to cryptographic algorithms that are believed to be secure against the onslaught of quantum computing, a technology that threatens to render current encryption methods obsolete. BTQ and Hon Hai’s partnership isn't just about being ahead of the curve; it's about drawing the curve.


This collaboration isn't their first rodeo. The seeds of this partnership were sown two years ago, setting the stage for a combined effort that culminated in a comprehensive report submitted to the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on June 1, 2023. This report, which focuses on additional digital signature schemes for PQC, is a testament to their commitment and expertise in this avant-garde field.


NIST's PQC standardization project, launched in 2016, aims to fortify digital security in the quantum age. The standards set here could eventually be the yardstick for government and industry encryption practices. The significance of BTQ and Hon Hai's contribution can't be overstated — they're not just participating in the conversation; they're leading it.


BTQ CEO Olivier Roussy Newton’s comments reflect this ambition. “Entering this agreement with Foxconn isn't just about advancing technology; it's about shaping the future of quantum industry,” he said. Newton also hinted at the potential for future collaborations, leveraging Canadian deep technology talent, a move that could ripple through the tech landscape.


On the other side, Hon Hai Research Institute CEO Wei-bin Lee emphasized the strength of their scientific team and the progress they've already made in advancing PQC. “Our collaboration with BTQ is a catalyst for groundbreaking developments in post-quantum cryptography,” Lee remarked.


What stands out about this partnership is its potential to set new standards in a field that's still very much in its infancy. It's a game of chess where BTQ and Hon Hai are thinking several moves ahead, not just for themselves but for the broader tech community. Their work could be the blueprint for how data is secured in a post-quantum world, a world where traditional cryptographic methods are no longer sufficient.
